After the 2024 Surge: Ground-Level Units and What Comes Next

In late September 2024, Hurricane Helene’s storm surge flooded much of Bradenton Beach, and Hurricane Milton followed less than two weeks later. Older homes, cottages and small motels built at grade took water inside, and condensers on ground-level pads were submerged in salt water. Plenty of air handlers in ground-floor closets and garages went under as well.

A typical call here looks like this: an owner had the condenser replaced after the storms, but now the house is warm again, and the air handler — which also sat in floodwater — is what’s failing.
